Description

Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a unicellular fungus. Yeast from Saccharomyces cerevisiae is widely used in bread and sourdough yeast strains. It is used in the production of several fermented beverages (cider, beer, 85% whiskey and wine) and distilled beverages (brandy, sake, vodka and whisky). Saccharomyces cerevisiae tolerates fermentation stress better than any other yeast species. Therefore, it is the preferred starter for industrial fermentation.
